Ceremony of The 5th Shanghai Inventive and Creatural Patent Prize was held in afternoon on April 9th in Shanghai Science Hall. The deputy-mayor Zhao Wen presented and addressed in the ceremony. A Large-Core high power fiber laser developed successfully by Academician Wang zhi-jang et al. from SIOM won the third Patent Prize .
There were 57 projects won in the ceremony including 5 first, 8 second, 13 third inventive patent prizes, 21 New Practical Patent Prizes,10 Appearance Design Patent Prizes. The total economy benefit resulted from the 57 projects in recent three years was about 92 hundred million Yuan, and the average economy benefit of each project was over 1.67 hundred million Yuan.
So far the Shanghai Inventive and Creatural Patent Prize has been awarded for 5 times since its founding in 2001, and 277 projects won inventive and creatural patent prizes, The resulted economy benefits are up to 279 hundred million Yuan all together.
A Large-Core high power fiber laser developed successfully by Academician Wang zhijang from SIOM was awarded the third Patent Prize, which realized mode control for output laser beam, eliminated the influence of nonlinear effect in conventional single-mode double-cladding fiber, and the influence of thermal damage. Single large-core high power fiber laser obtained the high power output of 1050W. The concave external-cavity is used to control mode, and nearly diffraction-limited high power laser output is realized in large-core fiber laser, the luminance of output laser is improved over three times.
