Since its establishment, SIOM has completed a series of important scientific research projects, including some basic and applied basic research projects in important optics and laser frontiers, and large-scale laser application engineering etc. Since 1964, SIOM has contributed 1025 scientific and technologic achievements, of which 45 achievements were awarded the state prizes, 127 awarded the CAS prizes, and 132 awarded the Shanghai municipal and ministry grade prizes. The laser experimental system12# won the first class award of the state scientific and technologic progress prizes in 1990, the table-top ultra-intense ultra-short OPCPA laser system won the first class award of the state scientific and technologic progress prizes in 2004.And other18 achievement won the 2nd class award of the state natural science prizes and the 2nd class award of the state scientific and technologic progress prizes respectively
Since the national patent system carried out in 1985, 1966 application patents at SIOM and 1797 granted patents have been put forward until 2013. In recent years the number of application patents often lists among the top of the scientific research institutions in China.
SIOM contributes and publishes 600 scientific papers each year. The three indices for evaluating the scientific papers(SCI. Index. SCI. Cite Index. International periodical Index) of SIOM are in the leading position of the scientific research institutions in China in succession years.
