On December 1, the 2nd China-Russia Frontier Seminar on Ultra Intense Laser Technology and Intense Field Physics was jointly organized by the Institute of Applied Physics (IAP), Russian Academy of Sciences and Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (SIOM), Chinese Academy of Sciences. Hou Jianguo, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Alexander Sergeev, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences gave the addresses on the opening ceremony.

Hou Jianguo firstly congratulated the seminar was organized by the two institutes. He pointed out that the joint Laser Laboratory jointly built by SIOM and IAP has made better progress, which is a successful example of Sino Russian scientific and technological cooperation.

Sergeev said that the scientific and technological cooperation between the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences has been in-depth and friendly. The successful organization of the seminar will surely bring the scientific and technological cooperation between Russia and China in relevant fields to a new level.

Fu Guoqing, the vice Chairman of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, and Shao Jianda, the director of SIOM also gave the addresses on the opening ceremony. Shen Yi, deputy director of the Bureau of International Cooperation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qu Ronghui, vice president of Shanghai Branch, Chen Weibiao, Li Yan and Leng Yuxin, the SIOM leadership, Efim Khazanov, the deputy director of IAP, Zhan Zhengyu, President of Laser Components Company, and other relevant scientific researchers attended the meeting.

More than ten scientists from China and Russia made special academic presentations in the field of cooperation. The topics include high field laser physics, ultra intense ultra-short laser technology, high power laser materials, diffraction gratings, laser glass materials, laser interferometers and so on.
