SIOM Successfully Organizes the 22nd International Conference on Ultrafast Phenomenon through Online

Update time: 2020-12-08

From November 16 to 19, 2020, the 22nd International Conference on Ultrafast Phenomena (UP2020) was successfully organized by Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (SIOM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

The International Conference on Ultrafast Phenomena is a series of conferences, which is held every two years. Since it was first held in 1978, it has been organized 21 times. It is the first time that the conference is held in China. The General Chairs of the conference are Franz Kartner of DESY-CFEL and University of Hamburg of Germany, Munira Khalil of University of Washington of USA and Ruxin Li of Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics of China. At the opening ceremony, CAS academician Li Ruxin delivered the opening address on behalf of the conference organizing committee. Academician Li also introduced the history of the International Conference on Ultrafast Phenomena, UP2020 Organizers, Exhibiting Companies, UP2020 Submission Statistics, 804 Registered Attendees from 30 Countries and the 13 Invited Speakers.

315 contribution papers were received. After reviewing by the members of the program committee, 278 papers were accepted, including 13 plenary presentations, 90 oral reports and 175 Post papers. After the deadline, 12 papers were received and 6 were finally accepted as post deadline paper. 278 reports are from 24 countries, including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States, of which 240 were from foreign countries , accounting for 86%. 804 participants from more than 30 countries registered for the conference.

UP2020 includes seven topics: "application of ultrafast phenomena", "femtosecond biology", "femtosecond photochemistry", "femtosecond optoelectronics", "materials science", "femtosecond physics" and "pulse generation and measurement". The conference focused on ultrafast processes in photosynthesis, generation and application of higher-order harmonics, ultrafast spin dynamics, two-dimensional spectroscopy, dynamics in solids, attosecond science, ultrafast biology, mid infrared and terahertz waves, etc.

On the evening of 18th, UP2020 program committee members were invited to attend the online round table discussion. The members discussed the UP2020 organization and the next organizer. Members spoke highly of SIOM organization of the conference. UP2020 provided a good platform for scientific research exchange in related fields all over the world. The successful organization of UP2020 expands the opportunities for cooperation among research institutions.
