On August 6th, Prof. Kazuhisa Nakajima from High Energy Accelerator Research Organization(KEK), Japan visited SIOM for academic exchange. Prof. Liu Jiansheng met with Prof. Kazuhisa Nakajima.
In the morning, a high-level academic report was organized, which was presided over by Prof. Liu. In his report entitled” Microphysics experiments using PW lasers for bridging from laboratory to universe– Collisionless Shocks, Collective Instabilities, Particle Accelerations –”, professor Kazuhisa Nakajima introduced the latest experiment on interactions of ultraintense laser pulses with near critical density plasmas and results on 4 PW laser wakefield electron acceleration beyond 5 GeV.
After the report, Prof. Liu Jiansheng and Prof. Wang Wentao showed Prof Nakajima around the improved laser wakefield accelerator facility in North campus, followed by an in-depth talk about the experiment.
Prof. Nakajima was awarded Visiting Professor for Senior International Scientists of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2010. Since 2013 he was involved in the 100 GeV Ascent laser plasma accelerator project as the project manager at international center for Zetta-Exawatt science technology (IZEST), Ecole Polytechnique. He led the low-density laser plasma group for the research on laser plasma electron acceleration as the group leader for 2014-2015 and as the research consultant for 2016-2017 at the Center for Relativistic Laser Science, Institute for Basic Science, Republic of Korea. He retired from IBS in 2018.
