The Seventeenth Youth Science and Technology Innovation Forum of SIOM was held by Youth Innovation Promotion Association of SIOM and Key Laboratory of Materials for High Power Laser in Yizhi Meeting Room on November 16 2016. Prof. Jinfang Sun from North Dakota State University was invited to give an academic communication. The seminar was presidered by associate professor Jing Zhu from Laboratory of Information Optics and Opto-Electronic Technology. Members of Youth Innovation Promotion Association, youth staff and graduated students attended this seminar.
Broadband nonlinear absorption materials, which can cover the visible to the near-IR region, are desired for a variety of photonic device applications. Prof. Wenfang Sun delivered a presentation entitled “Platinum (II) Terdentate or Diimine Complexes as Broadband Nonlinear Absorbing Materials”. She introduced the broadband nonlinear absorbing materials in the visible to the near-IR region, including Platinum (II) Terdentate or Diimine Complexes. However, the very weak ground-state absorption of many reported Pt (II) terdentate or diimine complexes in the near-IR region limited their applications. Prof. Wenfang Sun designed and synthesized several series of Pt (II) terdentate or diimine complexes containing fluorenyl component either on the terdentate ligand or on the acetylide ligands to increase the two-photon absorption of these complexes in the near-IR region. In such a case, the excited state via two-photon absorption can be accessed. Combination of two-photon absorption and excited-state absorption not only expands the nonlinear absorption spectral region but also enhances the linear transmission performance in the near-IR region, which enhanced the broadband nonlinear absorption performance of Platinum (II) Terdentate or Diimine Complexes dramaticly.
After the seminar, the guests visited Joint Laboratory on High Power Laser and Physics, State Key Laboratory of High Field Laser Physics and Key Laboratory of Materials for High Power Laser.
