In January 2016, Dr. Niall McEvoy from Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin, Ireland paid a visit to SIOM and delivered a presentation entitled by “Synthesis and Applications of CVD-Grown 2D Materials” to SIOM’s researchers.
In his talk, he focused on the growth of 2D materials, recent advances in post-growth modification and applications of CVD-grown graphene, the synthesis of TMD films, etc. The potential of TAC derived TMDs for various applications in the realm of electronics and energy is also be discussed. Finally, he detailed the synthesis of high-quality TMDs by a true CVD processes using a microreactor and liquid-phase exfoliated precursors. And then he outlined the use of Raman spectroscopy to characterize these materials.
Prof. Wang Jun, the vice dean of the Key Laboratory of Materials for High Power Laser, Chinese Academy of Sciences showed around Dr. Niall McEvoy the key laboratory. Dr. Niall McEvoy gave some high suggestions on the research of 2D materials during the lab visit.
