During the period of September 18-24, 2014, the 5th International Symposium on Filamentation (COFIL2014) was held successfully in China. The symposium was organized by Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (SIOM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and co-Organized by East China Normal University (ECNU), Shanghai. The Conference Co-Chairs is Zhizhan Xu and Ruxin Li.

The symposium offers 49 invited papers and 16 poster presentations in the following topics including Theoretical Advances on Filamentation, Self-Focusing and Collapse, Filamentation in Various Media, Pulse Self-Compression, Molecular Alignment, Filamentation Tailoring, Terahertz Science with Filaments and Cross-Disciplinary Applications.

COFIL2014 aims at bringing together scientists working in the field of femtosecond laser filamentation in transparent optical media and applications, as well as scientists from other fields interested in this research field to discuss present status and future perspectives.
