The German scientist Dr.Bussmann pays a visit to SIOM

Update time: 2013-11-18

On Nov.14, 2013, Dr. Michael Bussmann, who is the head of the Junior Group Computational Radiation Physics at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), paid a visit to SIOM.

During the seminar, Dr. Bussmann gave a talk entitled: accelerated simulations for plasma physics - Understanding and probing plasmas on the atomic scale. He overviewed the on going research interests in HZDR and cooperation work with SIOM. He presented work in the field of high power laser interaction with matter, such as laser-driven ion beams, laser-driven electron beams, Thomson-Scattering X ray beams and probing plasma dynamics at solid density. Beside the physics, He also presented the open source code PIConGPU which is developed by his junior group[1]. The code is a powerful tool aided the researches to understand the complex physics, such as laser particle acceleration, radiation, beam transport, Kelvin-Helmholtz instability and so on.  About 20 researchers of SIOM attended the seminar and discussed the relative physics with him on the seminar.

Dr. Michael Bussmann is head of the Junior Group Computational Radiation Physics at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf. After receiving his PHD from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, working on laser cooling of relativistic ion beams he moved to Dresden to work on laser matter interaction theory. His current research interests focus on laser-driven sources of ion, electron and X-ray beams and the dynamics of plasmas on the atomistic time scale. His group develops simulation codes for laser matter interaction, beam transport, radiation in plasmas, high-power laser development and in-situ data analysis.
