On October 11, 2010, an appointment ceremony for the Visiting Professor was held at Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (SIOM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Prof. Po S. Chung from City University of Hong Kong was appointed at the institute. Prof. Weibiao Chen, the vice director of the host institute awarded Prof. Po S. Chung the appointment letter. Prof. Changhe Zhou presided over the ceremony.
After the ceremony, Prof. Po S. Chung gave the presentation entitled by “Design and Applications of Circular Dammann Gratings” and had the discussions with the related researchers at the institute.
In 1990 Prof. Chung joined City University of Hong Kong as Professor and Head of Department of Electronic Engineering. In 1995 he became the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering. From 1997-2002 he was Vice-President in Research, and Dean of Graduate School. His research interests and publications are in integrated and fibre optics, optical non-destructive measurement techniques, and engineering education. He has authored or co-authored over 250 papers in international journals and conference publications. In 1997 he was elected to Fellowship at the prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering, U.K.
