OSA Delegation visited SIOM

   A 12-member delegation of the Optical Society of America (OSA) paid a visit to our institute in September, 2009. The OSA delegation consists of the OSA’s Officers and key staff members: Thomas Baer, OSA President, Stanford University; James Wyant, OSA President-Elect, University of Arizona; Christopher Dainty, OSA Vice-President, National Univ. of Ireland; Eric Van Stryland, OSA Past-President, University of Central Florida; Tingye Li, OSA Past President, Bell Laboratories (retired) and others.

   During the visit, Prof. Ruxin Lin (director of SIOM), Prof. Zhizhan Xu (member of Chinese Academy of Sciences) and others met with the delegation. During the Welcome Ceremony, Academician Zhizhan Xu made warm-hearted welcome speeches and introduced the new-elected director, Prof. Ruxin Li. Director Ruxin Li briefly introduced SIOM such as main research fields and key research activities. Prof. Thomas Baer introduced the members of the delegation. On behalf of OSA, he expressed his thanks for the long cooperation relationship between OSA and SIOM. He also highly praised SIOM research achievements on high field laser physics, high power laser, quantum optics and information optics, etc. He said that there were 11 OSA fellows while 4 from SIOM, which reflects SIOM research strength and the status in the world. They hope that OSA and SIOM can develop deep cooperation on Academic journals, academic conferences, researchers’ visits and exchange information, etc.

   The delegation also visited some laboratories of SIOM such as the State Key Laboratory of High Field Physics, the Open Laboratory for Information Optics, the Joint Laboratory for High Power Laser Physics and the Key Laboratory for Quantum Optics.
