In the afternoon on Aug. 21, Xu Lin, secretary of Pudong New District Committee of CPC and a member of Shanghai Standing Committee of CPC, Zhang Endi, deputy chief executive of Pudong New District, Zhu Xudong, director of the Science and Technology Bureau of Pudong New District, and Liu Xiaolong, executive deputy president of Shanghai Zhangjiang Group Co., Ltd inspected the National Compact Disc and Applications Engineering Research Center, accompanied by Zhu Rurong, the deputy director of SIOM. Center director Ruan Hao welcomed them and reported the research developments.

   Ruan introduced the center and the recent developments of Project NVD, and the problems in the developments were also raised. He said, Project NVD, as a new carrier of information and culture industry, would boost the developments in chips, optical heads, cultural innovations and so on.

   NVD was an independently innovated product with core intelligent property, and received the support from related state administrative departments including General Administration of Press and Publication.

   In Nov. 2007, after periodic achievements of NVD12 was achieved, Shanghai Nercod Compact Disk Technology Co., Ltd. started to industrialize its CD-ROM Reproduction Project under the approval of General Administration of Press and Publication, and the related preparation work is carried out step by step. An agreement with a company in Wuhan for joint investment on CD-ROM Reproduction Project had been signed.

   The prior research preparation for NVD15, upgrade of NVD12, was completed. Regarding to the problems of project developments, Ruan said, Project NVD met some hindrances in constructions of industrial chain and the research and development of new technologies, and therefore support from the District Committee and District Government is necessary.

   District government at various levels and their relevant administrative departments should pay much attention to the Project NVD, Xu Lin said after listening to the report, and Shanghai Zhangjiang Group Co., Ltd should provide satisfying service. The related administrative departments are required to help solving the raised problems, and Xu Lin emphasized that the District Committee and Government would continue the support and help to solve the problems in the developments.
