A team from the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai, led by Director Shou Ziqi and Chief Engineer Niu Xiaoming, visited Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics on Jun. 30th 2008. Zhu Jianqiang, the Director of SIOM, Li Ruxin, Party Committee secretary of SIOM, Shao Jianda, Vice Director, Qu Ronghui and Chen Weibiao, Assistants to Director.

   Director Zhu showed the team around SIOM and introduced the Joint Laboratory for High Power Laser Physics, State Key Laboratory of High Laser Physics, The Key Laboratory for Quantum Optics of CAS and The Novel Laser Technique and Application System Laboratory to them. The inspecting group communicated with the researchers from the labs.

   Director Zhu made a presentation entitled the Development of SIOM in Recent Years, which focused on the key research program in SIOM and the grand equipment for laser funded by Shanghai.

   Director Shou inquired about the situation and layout of the important research program in SIOM and the grand equipment for laser funded by Shanghai. Shou praised the achievements of SIOM in the fields of modern optics and laser and opto-electronics. He also gave advice on how to develop technology of strategic importance and transform researching achievements into industrial products. Shou expressed that Shanghai Science Committee would fully support the key special projects and would communicate with SIOM more often, in order to make better contribution to shanghai.

   Director Zhu expressed his thanks for the support from the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai, and he said SIOM would be devoted to the research work and make contribution for the national and also lacal strategic and economic construction.
