The 5th Asia Pacific Laser Symposium (APLS2006) is organized by our institute from November 23 to November 27, 2006 in Guangxi, China. It was sponsored by Chinese Optical Society, Laser Society of Japan and Optical Society of Korea.
  The purpose of The 5th Asia Pacific Laser Symposium is to provide a forum to review the most important developments in the field of laser and its applications, to exchange the update technical information in laser research, to promote laser applications in advanced science and industry, and to grasp the potential collaboration opportunities. It aims at bringing together of Asia-Pacific scientists and engineers working on laser science and technology. It covers a wide scope of laser science, technology, its applications and even others related to lasers.
  There are 112 Chinese and 41 Japanese researchers and 19 Korean researchers attended the conference. 7 participants are from other countries such as Russia, America, Germany, Canada, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Lithuanian.
  The symposium includes 3 plenary presentations, 24 invited papers, 44 oral presentations and 89 poster papers. After the conference, many participants expressed the their gratitude to our institute, such as the following words "Thank you for organizing APLS 2006, which was an excellent conference with many participants from Asia and other countries, presenting many interesting results on up-dated topics. We were very impressed by the high activities of the Chinese scientists, including young reserchers presenting."
