Research Focus
Prof. ZHANG is devoted to the research in the field of glass structure, infrared glass, laser materials glass and ceramics, as well as the techniques towards the large-size fabrication:
[1] Deeply investigate the structure and structural evolution of many optical glass systems, such as aluminate, borate, phosphate, and fluophosphate glasses, based on the developed series of dipolar-NMR techniques. The results were published about 20 papers in the leading journals, including Mater. Chem., J. Mater. Chem., and J. Phys. Chem.
[2] New strategy to the compositional design for IR-glass, called “Solid-solution of weak covalent intermediate against crystallization”, were proposed to face the challenge that glass with good infrared transmission is hard to prepare to the large size with high optical quality. Three types of oxyfluoride glasses with the excellent infrared transmission were developed. Their key techniques towards the high-quality and large-size fabrication, with diameter over 600 mm, were successfully overcome, produced the widely applications in the environmental monitoring, aerospace, and anti-terrorism; The results were published about 30 papers in the leading journals, including Adv. Opt. Mater., J. Mater. Chem., J. Phys. Chem., Opt. Lett., and Scientific Reports.
[3] Successfully develop series of laser materials for the next-generation extreme laser applications, including the fluophosphate laser glasses, LuAG ceramics, and sesquioxide ceramics. The results were published about 30 papers in the leading journals, including ACS. Nano, Mater. Design. J. Mater. Chem. J. Am. Ceram. Soc., J. Eur. Ceram. Soc., Opt. Lett., and Opt. Express.
