Laboratory of Thin Film Optics specializes in the research and development of optical thin film. Its predecessor was the "coating group" of the Technical Optics Laboratory, which was established in 1964 and assembled most of the outstanding researchers in the field of laser film in China at that time. After more than 40 years of development, Laboratory of Thin Film Optics has a solid research foundation, well-appointed measurement system and laser post-processing platform for the research and development of optical components such as optical films and gratings, especially in the field of high performance, high damage threshold laser film, leading the world. In recent years, best results have been achieved many times in the international competition for laser damage threshold of thin film. Self-constructed platforms for laser damage threshold measurement and laser conditioning process are at the leading level in China. The laboratory has won 13 awards for scientific and technological progress, including the first prize for technological invention in Shanghai and the second prize for scientific and technological progress in the army. The laboratory has two doctoral training bases in materials science and optical engineering, which has cultivated and formed a research team with strong innovation and technical ability. There are 50 employees, 6 professors, 5 PhD supervisors, and 35 graduate students.
