Established in 2013, the joint laboratory targets to promote scientific cooperation between China and Japan to a new level. The lab, a novel fruit of cooperative model, serves not only as a platform, but also as a window for academic exchanges between Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics of Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIOM) and Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN).

Currently, joint research covers quantum electronics, photonics, laser processing, microchemistry and nanotechnology.
